From the latest looks to the hottest appliances, the team at The Wood Works gives you the low down on the what to expect to be the must-have kitchen trends for 2019.

So what exactly is hot in the world of kitchen design? From texture and organic-inspired materials to glamourous use of metals, to clever kitchen storage, built in wine walls and contemporary kitchen islands, 2019 has no shortage of super cool trends that are heading our way!

Bold colours are here to stay, and we’re seeing blue firmly cementing itself as the go-to colour when it comes to kitchen design. For those who err on the side of caution, two-tone kitchens and using just an accent of dark colours to highlight key areas such as the kitchen island is a great option.

While open plan kitchens remain a firm favourite, the trend for hidden storage will allow you to keep mess out of site. Pocket doors that slide seamlessly out of sight make a great addition and can be used to hide different features, including a smart breakfast pantry, which has everything the family needs for a hectic morning including a coffee machine and toaster, which sits neatly on a pull out shelf, and can be easily used when in a rush.

Statement patterns and textures will be huge in 2019 and can be added to a kitchen in a variety of ways, whether you opt for two-tone kitchens, tiles or unusual materials such as concrete (which will be huge for worktops) or in your cabinetry choice. An intricate door design is a great way of adding pattern and can be used everywhere for a dramatic statement or sparingly on an island. Our Ascella kitchen’s star feature is the kitchen island, which uses an Italian slate veneer which turns this island into a piece of art. It also adds plenty of texture and interest too.

Why stop at your kitchen…matching living room furniture is high on the list when it comes to kitchen trends 2019. As kitchens are a place where families and friends come together, it’s safe to say that matching furniture can certainly be a great addition. Kitchen designers can now offer a range of furniture that covers off more than cooking including window seats, bars and even tv cabinets for post-dinner movie night.

Squares are out, curves are in! Kitchen designers are set to become even more creative in 2019 by using curves, especially when it comes to kitchen islands, whether faceted or smooth.

Water into wine…that’s right! The coolest wine walls and fridges are making their mark on kitchen trends for 2019. Going one step further than a wine fridge, we’re seeing kitchens being personalised with wine walls which work in unison with the wine fridge as a way of showcasing extensive wine collections and creating amazing entertaining spaces.

When it comes to appliances, we’re loving the redesigned Vario cooktops 200 series by Gaggenau which is great for those with smaller kitchen spaces who still want the luxury associated with the highest quality of cooking appliances. It also features an updated version of their downdraft extractor fan too!
